Sudanese authorities foiled explosion attempt by rebels
Sudan, Politics, 8/25/2001

A statement by the Sudanese ministry of the Interior on Friday announced that Sudan has foiled an attempt made by the rebels to blow off an oil pipeline in the eastern part of the country.

A statement by Um Durman official radio said that the police and army forces defused explosives on Wednesday evening near the said pipeline in the southern East of Port Sudan on the Red Sea.

The statement accused the opposition " al-Bajja" tribes conference movement of this " destructive act" and stressed that publications were left by the said group at the site of the incident.

The radio quoted the minister of the Interior Abdul Rahim Muhammad Hussein as saying that the security forces found TNT explosives and time bombs as well as a paper, the mouthpiece for the al- Bajja conference.
