King Mohammed dedicates official day of youth forum festival
Morocco, Culture, 8/24/2001

Morocco's King Mohammed VI, who was accompanied by his brother Prince Moulay Rachid, dedicated in Casablanca Thursday the official day at the second festival of the forum of Moroccan youth of the 3rd millenium.

The sovereign heard explanations on the general program of the festival and watched a documentary on the activities of the festival that gathered about 800 from all over Morocco.

The sovereign also visited the various showcases before a young Moroccan inventor, Said EL Maliji, presented him the two pre-paid cards he developed for commercial transactions worldwide, trough the Internet.

The sovereign then toured the wing of associations and ngos, where Prince Moulay Rachid launched the signature collecting operation to promote children rights, known as "Say Yes to Children."

The sponsors of the operation, namely the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and the Moroccan observatory of children rights (ONDE), are expecting to collect four million signatures in a petition circulated to promote children rights, prior to the UN general assembly extraordinary session on children next September in New York.

The joint UNICEF-ONDE form titled "Say Yes to Children" invites signatories to select three priorities among a set of issues: not to exclude any child, give priority to children, take care of children, fight HIV/AIDS, end children exploitation, listen to children, educate all children, protect children against war, protect land for children, fight poverty and invest in children.

The second festival of the youth forum that downed curtains Thursday evening featured several cultural activities and solidarity actions, workshops on the promotion of enterprises and round tables on means to foster private initiatives, creativity and competitiveness.

Several foreign delegations, mainly from Europe, took part in the festival held August 16-23, to trade experience with Moroccan young entrepreneurs.

Several members of the Moroccan cabinet, led by Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi, were present at the dedication ceremony of the official day of the forum.
