Syrian minister stressed the importance of fair sharing of waters with Turkey

The Syrian minister of irrigation Taha al-Atrash has underlined the importance of continued Syrian- Turkish contacts in order to reach a just solution to divide the waters of the Tigris and the Euphrates between the three countries Syria, Turkey and Iraq.
In press statements to journalists upon concluding his talks he held in Ankara with the Turkish officials, the Syrian minister said that during this visit discussions aimed at improving bilateral relations to their best.
In a similar statement, the Turkish minister of state for the GAP water project Mustafa Yalmaz said his talks with the Syrian side mark the beginning of continued dialogue between the two countries, stressing the existence of the will to eliminate obstacles.
The Syrian minister on Thursday visited the state's water establishment and the directorate general for villages services and listened to explanations to work progress in the two water establishments.
Earlier in the day, the Syrian minister met with the commander of the policemen force lt. Gen. Etyatchin Yalman who commended the level of bilateral relations, while the Syrian minister stressed Syria's determination to take part in building the positive atmospheres prevailing relations between the two countries. He stressed the need of co-operation in the area of irrigation and energy noting the regional electricity grid and gas grid in the region.
The joint statement was signed on behalf of the Syrian side by the director general of the land reclamation establishment in Syria Qeis al-Assad and the Turkish director of GAP project stated further co-operation in the area of agricultural water researches and training.
