Syria permits the circulation of Jordanian papers

For the first time since 20 years, the Syrian authorities permitted the entry of official and independent Jordanian papers to the Syrian markets in an additional evidence on the improvement of relations between the two countries at more than one level.

Well-informed sources at the Syrian ministry of information said that the Syrian minister of information Muhammad Omran gave his directives to circulate the Jordanian papers in Syria in a step started to be materialized during the two past days.

The Jordanian daily " al-Dostour" will enter Syria together with the almost official " al-Rai," in addition to independent papers like " al-Arab al-Youm" and the " al-Hilal" ( the Crescent), all represent various intellectual and political orientation.

At the meantime, the only Jordanian paper which is circulated in Syria is al-Majd which is of a Naserite inclination. It started to be circulated in Syria since 4 years and is considered one of the opposition papers in Jordan, while Damascus views other Jordanian papers especially official ones as inclined to normalization with Israel.

Worthy mentioning that this very Syrian step was preceded by a Jordanian one to circulate the Syrian press in Jordan but in few numbers. The Syrian ministry sources said this number will be increased shortly.
