Bin Ali establishes a human rights documentation center
Tunisia, Politics, 8/24/2001
A Tunisian official source announced that the Tunisian President Zein al-Abidin Bin Ali decided to establish a center for documentation in the area of human rights.
This was in the course of " supporting the Tunisian system for human rights and strengthening the mechanism of disseminating the culture of human rights by providing necessary documentation services in this area." This announcement to establish this center came following a meeting between President Bin Ali and the minister in charge of human rights and communications at the Tunisian parliament Salah eddine Ma'awi.
On the other hand, the Tunisian daily al-Shourouq strongly criticized the Tunisian woman activist in the area of human rights Suheir Balhassan who assumes the post the presidency of " the Tunisian league in defense of human rights " and accused her of seeing matters through " western eyes." The paper regretted the behavior of Balhassan over her contribution to prepare a report on human rights for the " Amnesty International" organization and the " US Human Rights Watch Organization."
