Toshka spillway to be opened to receive flood water

Mahmoud Abu Zeid, Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, has decided to open the Toshka spillway to receive Nile flood water this year when the level of water behind the high dam reaches 179 metres, one meter higher than last year.
This is the third consecutive year, since the High Dam was built, in which Nile flood water enters the Toshka spillway in order to increase the water stored in Lake Nasser to more than 30 billion cubic metres.
Reports received by the Ministry of Water Resources indicate that water was continually rising, registering 10 centimeters higher than last year.
Water behind the High Dam reached 177.75 metres. water stored in Lake Nasser Tuesday reaches 136.1 billion cubic metres, an increase of 560 million cubic metres compared with Monday.
The Minister of Water Resources said that Egypt will not face any danger because of the flood due to the High Dam which has been built to protect the country form flood and drought.
