Junblat's statements on the Syrian presence in Lebanon

In exclusive statements to the Jordanian daily " Al-Arab al-Yaoum " ( Arabs today), the chairman of the Lebanese socialist progressive party Walid Junblat said that the recent detentions in Lebanon have no links to the Syrian presence in Lebanon.

He added that " all are against detention and repression and that he is with a democracy in Lebanon that serves Arab causes." Junblat has denied to have had called, earlier, for getting the Syrians out of Lebanon, rather that he has been always calling for the redeployment of the Syrian forces in preparation for the coming war with Israel. He stressed that it is impossible to once again have a civil war in Lebanon.

He indicated the important Syrian role to deepen natural contacts between inside and the outside in the service of the current conditions in Palestine and Lebanon.

Concerning the Druz Forum which was held in Amman during the two past days, Junblat explained that an intensive coordination was made with the Jordanian government to convening this forum which was blessed by Jordan.

Junblat stressed that Druze in Jordan enjoy all their rights and that they did not take part in the activities of the Forum because they do not have problems.
