Libyan- Sudanese round of talks

The Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has stressed that the world partnership dialogue summit which concluded its works in Kampala on Monday was an opportunity to maintain an open and fruitful dialogue among the African states on several issues especially economic issues and means of creating a creative and just participation through which benefits will be exchanged in a way that there will be no loosing side.
In statements he made in Khartoum on Tuesday upon his return back from Kampala together with members of the accompanying delegation, after he took part in the summit which was attended by 15 African leaders, the Sudanese President stressed the need of achieving common goals among their countries on the ground of finding out the common ground for common understanding and mobilizing inter- African potentials to withstand the impact of the international changes, and world trade on the developing and poor countries.
On the other hand, the Sudanese President commended the great change in Uganda's position towards the question of peace in Sudan. He said he has felt during his meeting with the President of Uganda Yuri Mouseveini at the said summit a positive development towards Sudan and that this very position supports peace in the country and improves bilateral relations.
The Sudanese President attributed the tension which prevailed the Sudanese- Ugandan relations during the past years to the war taking place in southern Sudan and its reflections on the two countries He added that convincing the government of Uganda to the importance of achieving peace in Sudan will greatly contribute to achieve this peace due to the direct effect President Mouseveini has on the rebel movement in southern Sudan especially on John Garang.
The Sudanese President indicated that opening the two countries embassies at the meantime in Kampala and Khartoum and resumed flights of the Sudanese airlines to Uganda represents a positive development to this end.
On the other hand, a Sudanese- Libyan round of talks was held on Tuesday in the presence of the secretary of the Libyan people's committee for African Unity Ali Abdul Salaam al-Tureiki and the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael and several heads of establishments, commissions and experts representing the two countries.
The two sides reviewed activities of the committee in charge of following up relations between Libya and Sudan. They evaluated what have been implemented of joint agreements and programs as well as issues listed on the agenda of the Sudanese- Libyan joint higher committee due to be held in Khartoum in the mid of September.
The two sides also discussed the mechanism of implementing items of the Libyan- Egyptian initiative on maintaining stability and peace in Sudan and steps made by this initiative amid successive developments.
