Moroccan representatives, Tahar Chakir (from the lower House of Representatives) and Mohamed Akhattour (from the upper chamber of advisors) are taking part in the session together with peers from the other four member countries: Algeria, Libya, Mauritania and Tunisia.
The session is debating progress in major projects in member-countries and the Union action in consolidating basic infrastructure, in conformity with recent resolutions and recommendations. Participants are also assessing progress in a number of joint projects, mainly Maghreban highway, Maghreban railway, maritime, air and road transport, post services, the new information technologies, fighting desertification, anti-natural catastrophes strategy and water resources management.
The session is held in preparation for UMA consultative council's 4th session to be held in Rabat next September 5-6.
Another commission of the council, that of human resources, met last week in Algiers and adopted a series of recommendations on human resources promotion, culture, information, education, scientific research, youth and sports and health, in addition to issues pertaining to the Maghreban community settled abroad. The recommendation will be submitted to the consultative council.
