Syrian source denies initiative between Kuwaiti- Iraqi relations

A Syrian official source denied in a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Seyasah the " existence" of any Syrian initiative towards the Kuwaiti- Iraqi relations. The source asserted that news which talked about an initiative by President Bashar al-Assad concerning the Iraqi- Kuwaiti relations are groundless and that leaking such news at such a timing is just to try to confuse the visit.

The Syrian source stressed the principles of the Syrian position in supporting the Kuwaiti rights as asserted before by President al-Assad, noting that Syria has not and will not established relations with any Arab countries at an expense of another Arab state and will not join any axis because Syria pursues a fixed policy and that Syria's relations with Kuwait are clear and old.

Meantime, the Jordanian daily al-Rai expected the Kuwaiti- Iraqi relations will be in the essence of President Bashar al-Assad's talks with the Kuwaiti leaders during the visit he made on Saturday. It expressed hope that this visit will conclude positive results so as to place relations between the two countries on gradual path of detente.

The paper continued that this issue has now become the most important after the question of Palestine and puts its shadow on actual Arab solidarity, noting in this regard to the visit made by the Syrian prime minister Muhammad Mustafa Miro to Baghdad, the improvement on the Syrian- Iraqi relations and the statements of the Iraqi foreign minister in which he stressed his country's desire and readiness to resume relations with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
