Maher meets with Sudanese Information Minister

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher on Thursday met with visiting Sudanese Minister of Information Mahdi Ibrahim. The meeting discussed the Egyptian-Libyan initiative on reconciliation in Sudan.
Asked about reports that there were differences blocking implementation of the initiative, particularly after Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) leader John Garang said he rejected the initiative and wanted that sponsored by IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority for Development) instead.
Mahdi said all Sudanese faction leaders, including Garang, had agreed to the Egyptian-Libyan initiative.
On the other hand, Sudanese Ummah Party Leader Al-Sadeq Al Mahdi visits Cairo on August 22 at the head of a delegation to meet with the Egyptian officials on the Egyptian-Libyan initiative to realize peace in Sudan.
An Ummah Party source said Thursday Mahdi will head from Cairo to Tripoli on August 26 at the invitation of Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi to attend the September 1st celebrations and hold consultations on means of bringing about peace in Sudan.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Moustafa Osman is due to visit Cairo early next week to meet with Ahmed Maher.
Osman will discuss with Maher the latest developments of the Egyptian-Libyan initiative on achieving peace in Sudan and review the results of a shuttle tour by Abdel-Salam Al-Tureiki, Secretary of Libya's General People's Committee for African Unity, of Egypt, Sudan and Kenya.
Meanwhile, Osman is scheduled to lead his country's delegation to the ministerial meetings of the Sahel and Sahara Grouping, due to be held in Sudan on Monday.
Sudan heads the current Sahel and Sahara session. The Foreign Minister is to present a report on what has been achieved during the current session which started in Khartoum in November.
