China denies updating Iraqi defense system

China on Friday stressed that there is no evidence that Chinese companies have updated the Iraqi anti plane defense system or violated the UN sanctions imposed on Iraq.
News reports quoted the spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry as saying in a statement quoted by the " New China" news agency that the Chinese government has not disclosed any Chinese - Iraqi trade activity that violates resolutions of the UN Security Council.
The Chinese spokesman stressed that Peking supports the UN resolutions adding that in case violations appeared to be taken place by Chinese companies the Chinese government will deal with the matter in the appropriate way.
The Chinese spokesman was replying to news published by the US " Wall Street Journal" this week which said that Chinese companies continue to support Iraq in building under- ground telecommunications center that would strengthen greatly the Iraqi defense forces.
