Chad-Regional, Politics, 8/18/2001
Chad's president Idris Deibi has stressed that his country will not establish any relations with Israel, and denounced the repeated Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people.
Deibi who started this week his second term office after he had won the Presidential elections said in a statement issued on Friday by the United Arab Emirates UAE daily al-Khaleij that the peace process is facing great difficulties and what is taking place from the Israeli side reflects its desire not to reach peace. He said: " our stand is clear and in support of the Arab right."
Deibi commended Chad's relations with the Arab states. Relations which he had described as organic and cultural, noting that Chad is the only country outside the framework of the Arab League which declared Arabic as an official language.
Replying to a question on whether the declaration of Arabic as an official language for the country will be an introduction to joining the Arab league, Chad's President said that " approving Arabic as an official language complies with the desire of the people of Chad. He explained that the people of Chad speak Arabic, being Muslims or Christians, in the south or in the north. He added " we have restored back to the Arabic language its own presence colonialism had tried to margin," adding that Chad's joining the Arab league is a matter left to be decided by the people of Chad.
