Lawyers of member of the Syrian parliament (People's Assembly) Mamoun al-Homsi submitted a request to free him according to legal claims of " futile measures taken against him" and resulted in holding him in custody since several days. One of al-Hosmi lawyers told reporters on Wednesday "we are optimist to free him ( al-Homsi) today ( Thursday)." Go

The attorney general in Casablanca has decided to jail the Moroccan Ahmad al-Bukhari who recently disclosed information on the situation of al-Mahdi Bin Barakah and to sue him under the charge of " a Checque without credit," as known by the defendant. Go

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday received the Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri and discussed with him conditions in the region, relations between the two countries and issues of mutual concern. The President also received the Lebanese minister of Health Suleiman Franjieh and discussed with him "prospects opened for cooperation between the two sisterly countries." Go

A government official in Belarus on Thursday announced that the Libyan President Muaammar al-Qaddafi will pay an official visit to Minsk by the end of this month August. Go

The Islamic bank for Development on Wednesday announced that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates UAE paid USD 54.5 million for the two funds of supporting the Palestinian Intifada. Saudi Arabia paid USD 40 million and the UAE USD 14.5 million for the two funds of the Intifada. This will raise Saudi Arabia contributions to USD 210 million and this of the UAE to USD 57.5 million. The Jordanian opposition parties which are composed of 14 parties have decided to file a case against the Jordanian government because of the refusal of the ministry of the interior to license a people's fund to raise donations in support of the Palestinian Intifada. These parties are intending to found this Fund within the framework of its program to support the Palestinian Intifada. Go

The Jordanian prime minister Ali Abu al-Ragheb who is also the minister of defense in Jordan on Thursday in Amman met with the commander of the US central leadership lt. Gen. Tommy Francs and discussed with him means of strengthening joint cooperation relations between the two countries especially cooperation between the two countries' armed forces. Sources at the Jordanian cabinet reported that the two sides commended the development of bilateral relations and stressed their care to back them. Go

The Democratic front for Salvation and fighting normalization with Israel on Thursday called on the government of Mauritania to cut its relations with Israel and to convene a national reconciliation conference, release the political detainees and cancel the decisions provided for solving the political parties in the country. Commander of the US central leadership Gen. Tommy Francs has started a visit to Yemen during which he will be meeting with high ranking Yemeni officials. He will discuss with the Yemeni officials, according to a US source, areas of military and security co-operation between the two countries. Go

Turkey on Wednesday called on the Israeli authorities to return back " very soon" the Orient House, the almost official headquarters for the PLO in East Jerusalem to the Palestinians. Go

The Israeli warplanes renewed its violation of the airspace of Lebanese and broke the sound barrier over the capital Beirut. Lebanese Security sources said that the Israeli warplanes flew on Thursday afternoon in the airspace of South Lebanon and broke the sound barrier. Go
