Moroccan parties denounce Israel's criminal aggressions against Palestinian people
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 8/17/2001

Four Moroccan parties have condemned the Israeli criminal aggressions against the unarmed Palestinian people and denounced the silence observed by big powers.

This came in a statement issued here Thursday by four Moroccan parties forming the Democratic Koutla (Arabic word for bloc) at the end of a meeting devoted to the situation prevailing in the Middle East.

The Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), the Istiqlal Party (PI), the Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS) and the Organization for Democratic and Popular Action (OADP) condemned the crimes perpetrated by Israel and denounced the silence observed by big powers, which do not exert any pressure on Israel to make it abide by International Conventions and which do not make any move to end the deterioration of the situation in the region.

Three of these parties, namely the USFP, the PI and the PPS, are participating in the Moroccan coalition government.

The koutla parties called the UN Security Council to shoulder its responsibility in providing protection to the Palestinian people and to Palestinian institutions and to take action to put an end to all forms of aggression waged against the Palestinian people, the statement said.

More than 700 Palestinian were killed and 27,000 have been injured since the Al-Aqsa mosque intifadah erupted in September 2000, following a visit by Israeli premier Ariel Sharon to the esplanade of mosques in the holy city of Al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The four parties also called the leaders of Arab and Islamic countries to close ranks, coordinate efforts in the frame of an integrated plan and extend the required assistance to the Palestinian people. They also urged the Moroccan living forces to adopt practical measures to back the Palestinian people morally and materially.

The parties, which looked into several initiatives to be made to materialize the Moroccan people's solidarity with the Palestinian people, paid a moving tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their life for the liberation of Palestine.

A Moroccan leading trade union La Confederation Democratique du Travail (CDT) has also denounced the silence observed by the international community, describing this attitude as a complicity with the Zionist war machine.

The CDT executive board hailed, in a statement issued at the end of its weekly meeting Wednesday, the resistance of the heroic Palestinian people who are facing the Zionist racist and colonialist machine, and denounced what it described as "the shameful silence of Arab official spheres," in ignorance of the consequences such an attitude may have on the future of the whole Islamic Ummah (Nation).

The trade union board also condemned the destructive war waged against the Palestinian people, state and capital to obliterate the Palestinian identity and features.

The CDT called Arab peoples for further mobilization to face up the imperial-Zionist plan and urged the Moroccan labor and the Moroccan people to closely follow the situation and to show more active solidarity with the Palestinians.

The Moroccan media are devoting daily comments to the events taking place in the occupied territories, denouncing the Israeli barbarous crimes and calling the international community to foil the Israeli plans to liquidate the Palestinian people and to take firmer stands against the Zionist policy.

They deplore the international community's passivity and denounce the stand of most western powers which put on equal footing victims and assailants.
