Meetings of Syrian- Kuwaiti ministerial committee concluded

Meetings of the 7th session of the Syrian- Kuwaiti joint ministerial committee were concluded on Thursday in Damascus under the chairmanship of the Syrian deputy premier for economic affairs Khaled Raad and the Kuwaiti minister of finance, planning and administrative development Youssef Hamad al-Ibrahim., in the presence of the delegations representing the two states.

At the beginning of the session Raad and al-Ibraheim exchanged two speeches in which they underlined the importance of the results concluded by the meetings of the joint ministerial committee, noting its significance to fostering relations between the two countries for serving mutual interests, so as to reach Arab economic integration.

Then, Raad and al-Ibrahim signed the joint minutes of meeting for the meetings of the joint Syrian- Kuwaiti joint committee.

Also signed was an agreement to encourage and ensure investment by the Syrian minister of the economy and foreign trade Muhammad al-Imadi and the Kuwaiti minister of finance, planning and administrative development Youssef Hamad al-Ibraheim.

A memorandum of co-operation in the field of customs administration was signed by the Syrian minister of Finance Khaled al-Maheyni and the Kuwaiti minister al-Ibrahim. A similar agreement was signed in the field of agricultural co-operation between the Syrian minister of agriculture Asaad Mustafa and the Kuwaiti minister Hamad al-Ibrahim.

The two sides agreed to establish a follow up committee chaired by the deputy minister of economy and foreign trade and the assistant secretary for the economic and financial affairs in Kuwait and this committee to meet each 6 months alternatively in Damascus and Kuwait and whenever it is necessary in order to follow up the implementation of the signed agreements and decisions to be taken by the joint committee. Work results of this committee will be submitted to the ministerial committee.

The two sides also agreed to convene the meeting of the joint ministerial committee in the first half of 2002 in the state of Kuwait.
