Discussions on the Egyptian- Libyan initiative concerning Sudan

The Sudanese minister of the information Mahdi Ibrahim said following his meeting on Thursday with the Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher in Cairo that his talks dealt with the joint Egyptian- Libyan initiative concerning Sudan.

Ibrahim said replying to a question on differences impeding the implementation of the initiative especially on what was said on the refusal of the rebels of southern Sudan to it, that all Sudanese parties had agreed to the essence of the said initiative..

Replying to another question on agreeing steps to revitalize the initiative and set a date for the Sudanese national dialogue that consultation and coordination are underway, adding that officials in both Egypt and Libya are carrying out this task with great care in order to make sure of the best timing for all sides concerned to maintain the dialogue.

Ibrahim expressed his hope that the 9 principles agreed by all sides concerned will be the base on the ground of which meeting and consultation will be maintained.

Just recently, the Libyan African unity minister Ali Abdul Salaam al-Tureiki announced following a visit to Khartoum that the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir stressed commitment to this initiative.

However, the Libyan- Egyptian peace initiative states party pluralism, formation of a provisional national federation government, preserving Sudan's unity and convene a conference on national reconciliation.
