Kuwait-Syria, Politics, 8/16/2001

The first deputy for the Kuwaiti Premier and the foreign minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber welcomed the expected visit to be made by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Kuwait on Saturday.

In a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Anbaa issued on Wednesday, Sheikh Sabah said that the visit will deal with several issues linking the two sisterly countries.

On the files to be discussed during the visit of President al-Assad, Sheikh Sabah explained that this matter will be decided by the ruler of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber and President Bashar al-Assad.

Sheikh Sabah explained that the visit of the Syrian prime minister Mustafa Miro to Iraq is not denounced by Kuwait because it falls in the course of economic relations between the two countries.
