Arab Foreign Ministers hold emergency meeting soon
Regional-Palestine, Politics, 8/16/2001

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa Wednesday night said that Arab Foreign Ministers will gather for an emergency meeting in the coming few days to discuss the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian territories.

In a press conference grouping Moussa, Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdel El-Ilah Al-Khatib and Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher, Al-Khatib said that Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat called for holding the ministerial emergency meeting and that Moussa will hold relevant consultations with Arab countries as soon as possible.

Arabs fully support the Palestinians and are outraged by what is taking place in Al-Quds (Jerusalem)," said Moussa. He underlined the importance of adopting an Arab stance to counter what he termed as the dangerous situation created by Israel.

"All Arabs support the Palestinian resistance and Intifada," said Moussa. "Israeli measures in Al-Quds do not invalidate the UN Security Council resolutions and international agreements, therefore, the fate of the holy town remains unresolved and governed by the Council and international legitimacy resolutions. On his part, the Jordanian Minister voiced rejection of Israeli measures and cited Arab determination that the Jewish state reverses them. He said that negotiations hold the key to a way out of the current impasse.
