Moroccan journalists meet Spanish politicians, NGOs over Sahara issue
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 8/16/2001
A delegation of Moroccan journalists is to visit Spain by the end of next September to meet officials, political leaders and NGOs over the Sahara issue.
The trip, sponsored by an NGO, the Moroccan Sahara Association, is meant to inform the Spanish public opinion on the Moroccan Sahara issue.
Members of the Moroccan NGO are currently in Madrid to set the schedule of the journalists' meetings with political parties, media, NGOs and governmental officials.
The Sahara, a Moroccan southern territory formerly under Spanish rule, was retrieved by Morocco in 1975 under the Madrid accords. Its independence is however claimed by an Algerian-backed polisario.
