El Guerrouj holds the 1,500 m world record
Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj, who already holds two world titles in the 1,500 m race in 1997 and 1999, won on Sunday his third title in a row at Edmonton's world championship and gave Morocco a 2nd gold medal.
Hicham, the only athlete in the world with five world records (outdoors 1,500 m, mile and 2,000 m and indoors 1,500 m and mile), will be shifting to the 5,000m with an eye on Ethiopian Haile Gebreselassie's record of 12:39'36."
