Several development projects launched in Oued Eddahab province
Morocco, Politics, 8/15/2001
Several development projects were launched Tuesday in the Moroccan southern province of Oued Eddahab on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the recovery by Morocco of this province that was formerly Under Spanish rule.
A ministerial delegation has thus launched the rehabilitation works of several road stretches for a cost of 2.54 Million DH (about $ 221,652), visited a low-cost housing project worth 54 million DH (nearly $ 4.69 million) and laid the foundation stone of the headquarters of the regional office of the high commission for former resisters and former members of the liberation army and of a vocational training center. The construction of these premises will require a budget of 1.0 million DH ($ about 86,956), to be supplied by the high commission and the national mutual assistance department.
The ministerial delegation took part Monday at a rally organized in Dakhla on the occasion of the anniversary that was marked Tuesday nationwide.
The return to the motherland of Oued-Eddahab, on August 14, 1979, marked a historic turning point in the process to perfect Morocco's territorial integrity.
On that day, when Mauritania announced it is withdrawing from what was known as Tiris El Gharbia, a delegation of notables and theologians from various tribes, representing the population of Oued Eddahab, traveled to the capital city of Rabat to present to the late King Hassan II their oath of allegiance and reiterate their attachment to the Alawit throne, producing to the world opinion evidence that the Sahara has always been Moroccan and it will remain Moroccan territory.
The event also bears evidence to the unshakable bonds linking the province and the rest of the kingdom and the ever-confirmed attachment of the province populations to the territorial unity and the Alawit throne.
The recovery of Oued-Eddahab crowned a long battle waged by Morocco to perfect its territorial integrity, started on November 23, 1957 when the southern Ait-Baamarane tribes stood up against colonization, leading to the liberation of Tarfaya in 1958, Sidi Ifni in 1969 and other parts of the Sahara after the glorious Green March in 1975. The patriotic challenge showed to the whole world that all Moroccans are determined to defend their homeland, its sovereignty, territorial integrity, defying all divisions and partitions imposed by the colonial authorities and plots hatched by enemies of the kingdom's territorial integrity.
