Egypt-Israel, Politics, 8/14/2001
Despite the elapse of six years after several Israeli commanders had admitted in detail to committing gruesome massacres against Egyptian civilians and prisoners of war in Sinai, during the 1956 and 1967 wars, no serious attempts have been made to take legal procedures to investigate such information. Nothing was actually performed to bring Israeli criminals of war before international or even Egyptian judiciary.
But the Egyptian Human Rights Organization (EHRO) has collected, over the last five years, live testimonies of more than 56 persons who were eye-witnesses of those atrocities. The (EHRO) reported the Egyptian Attorney General, urging him to pursue Israeli criminals of war; at the top of whom come A. Sharon, Israeli premier and B. Eliezer, Israeli defense minister.
Hafez Abu Seida, the secretary general of EHRO, was interviewed in Geneva by the Egyptian weekly Akher Sa'a, on this topic said that the ERHO called on for setting action in motion concerning the slaying of the Egyptian captives, on the basis that such crimes are penalized under the international accords signed by both Egypt and Israel. The magazine re-published complete confessions of Israeli criminals of war that had been made on the Israeli daily Ma'ariev on 4 August, 1995.
Abu Seida added that over six years now the EHRO who has picked up documents and accusation evidences; such as the collective graves unearthed in Sinai, of the murdered Egyptians. Besides, there are the live testimonies that have been recorded by audio and video means.
The accusation list involved a big host of names: Ariel Sharon, the present Israeli prime minister, who had been the commander of the 9th brigade in the 67 war, Ariee Pero who admitted in 1995 of killing 49 unarmed Egyptian POWs in the 1956 battle, plus murdering another 500 persons, including civil workers in Sinai in 1967.
The list contained as well several other names of Israeli army officers, whose hands were stained by the blood of Egyptian innocent POWs.
