Israeli message for Syria
Syria-Israel, Politics, 8/14/2001
The Jordanian weekly al-Jazira said on Monday according to Israeli reports published last week in the Israeli press that the Israeli defense minister Benjamin Bin Aleazer sent a message to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, through another state, noting the Israeli sincere intention to renew negotiations between Syria and Israel.
These press reports indicated that Bin Aleazer message might be through direct directives of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon and reason behind this conviction that Bin Aleazer remarked Israel's readiness to withdraw until June 4, 1967 border lines from the Golan.
These reports attributed the reason behind sending this message to the calculations made by the Israeli security especially those pertaining to the ability of the Hizbullah to attack Israel " in depth" in case incidents erupted in the northern areas or attacks by the Israeli forces in South Lebanon or against the Syrian forces. A matter which will lead to escalation that will push Hizbullah to use its missiles in striking the Israeli depth.
