Former Israeli minister calls for dialogue
Israel-Palestine, Politics, 8/14/2001
Former Israeli minister of Justice Yusi Belin on Sunday in Cairo called on the peace partisans to start a dialogue in order to get out of the nightmare in the Middle East, stressing that he will discuss this matter very soon with the chairman of the Palestinian authority Yasser Arafat.
In statements to the press he made following his meeting with the Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher on Sunday evening in Cairo, Belin said that all those who believe in peace, in Israel or in the Arab states have to start the dialogue in order to find out means to get out of this nightmare.
He added that the current situation between the Israelis and the Palestinians reached the phase of what he called " madness" but noted the need not to surrender to this reality. He explained he is not authorized by the Israeli government.
He continued that he had discussed these thoughts with the Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres and will complete discussions on these talks by the end of this week or the beginning of next week with Arafat.
