Egyptian exports to Lebanon up by 70%
Egypt-Lebanon, Economics, 8/13/2001

The Egyptian ambassador in Beirut Adel Al-Khudary stressed the Egyptian -Lebanese cooperation in all fields. He pointed out that the last 6 years had witnessed inking a number of agreements on bilateral cooperation in economic, cultural and media fields.

On his speech before a dinner banquet fixed by the associations of both the Egyptian community and Egyptian women in Beirut to honor him on the occasion of the end of his term of duty, AL-khudary said the increase of bilateral cooperation had faced no obstacles.

He stressed achieving Arab integrity and solidarity via Arab electricity grid, gas, pipeline, and common Arab market.

On dual taxation, AL-Khudary said that Egypt and Lebanon had inked an agreement on banning dual taxation.

He added that they had signed also an agreement on protecting and boosting investments. The later agreement, he noted, had contributed to upping the Egyptian exports to Lebanon last year by 70%, while increasing the Lebanese exports to Egypt by 5%.

On the bilateral coordination, AL-khudary said Egypt had supported the Lebanon's stand towards restoring the occupied Shebaa farm, and its retrieval of Lebanese prisoners of war (POWS) apprehended at Israeli jails.

Also, Al-khudary pointed out that Egypt had operated two Lebanese electricity stations in Deir Bnuh and AL-Jamhur after being blown up by the Israeli occupation forces.

"They had been re-established by the Egyptian expertise before the scheduled timetable," he said.

He praised the efforts exerted by the two associations: the Egyptian community and Egyptian women in Lebanon in maintaining their members interests and boosting bilateral ties.
