Egypt-PA in contact on grave deterioration in Palestinian lands
Palestine-Egypt, Politics, 8/13/2001
Palestinian Minister of Local Government Saeb Erekat said that Egyptian-Palestinian contacts and coordination are ongoing to confront the grave deterioration in the Palestinian territories following Israel's occupation of the PLO headquarters in Jerusalem, the Orient House.
"Egyptian-Palestinian coordination is as usual very deep, the two sides are in contact on the hour and act together on the various fronts, whether on the American, European, international or the United Nations," he told Cairo Radio Sunday.
He held Israel fully responsible for the grave repercussions of its occupation of Orient House and the village of Abu Deiss and called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility and provide international protection to the Palestinians and implement the international legitimacy resolutions.
The situation is very difficult, he added, Israel is trying to shut down all Palestinian institutions that have been working in Jerusalem before 1967 and thus wipe out the Palestinian cultural and economic presence and services in Jerusalem.
"The next step that we must expect, will be the infringement on A1 Haram A1 Sharif," he said.
"This is the beginning of a Sharon series to cross out Jerusalem from the negotiations," he added.
