Syrian Premier meets with Iraqi President, higher committee talks opened

The Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Saturday evening in Baghdad received the Syrian Prime minister Muhammad Mustafa Miro.
The Syrian Premier extended greetings of President Bashar al-Assad to President Hussein and to the " brotherly" people of Iraq.
The Iraqi President asked Premier Miro to convey his greetings and best wishes to President al-Assad and to the people of Syria.
The Prime minister briefed the Iraqi President with the deliberations of the joint committee. And the two sides reviewed the situation and developments in the region.
The meeting was attended by the Syrian deputy premier for services affairs Muhammad naji al-Otari, the minister of the economy and foreign trade Muhammad al-Imadi, the minister of state for foreign affairs Nasser Qaddour, minister of health Dr. Muhammad Eyad al-Shatti, minister of building and construction Muhammad Nihad Mushantat and the minister of industry Ahmad Hamo.
The Iraqi side was attended by the vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan, deputy premier and finance minister Hekmat al-Azzawi, Industry minister Adnan Abdul Miguid, transport and communications minister Omeed Medhat, Trade minister Muhammad Mahdi Saleh and the foreign minister Naji Sabri.
Both Ramadan and Miro chaired the meeting of the Higher joint committee. The two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways and means of boosting them, as well as the topics listed on the agenda of the Syrian- Iraqi Higher committee.
The meeting was attended by members of the Syrian delegation.
Earlier in the day, the Syrian prime minister arrived in Baghdad on an officials visit to Iraq to lead the Syrian side to the meetings of the Syrian- Iraqi Higher committee. Miro was welcomed at Baghdad's airport by the Iraqi vice- President Taha Yassin Ramadan and other senior Iraqi officials.
In a statements to the press, the Prime minister expressed pleasure to be in Iraq and stressed Syria's firm stance with Iraq against the " unjust sanctions which have been imposed on Iraq.The Syrian prime minister noted the unanimous Arab agreement during the recent Arab summit held in Amman that the sanctions have inflicted great harm on the Iraqi people as well as on the neighboring countries of Iraq.
He said that the expansion of trade exchange between Syrian and Iraqi businessmen and investors will be discussed.
