Arafat sends messages to world leaders
Palestine, Politics, 8/13/2001

The chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat has called on the international community to move urgently in order to end the Israeli occupation of Beit al-Sharq (Orient House) and the Palestinians establishments closed by the Israeli forces in occupied Jerusalem.

The Palestinian official in charge of the local rule in the Palestinian Authority Saeb Oreikat told " voice of Palestine radio " ( Sawt Filastine radio) that Arafat has called in urgent messages he addressed to the UN secretary general Kofi Annan and to the US President George Bush, the Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Chinese President Jiang Zemin, the Norway's prime minister, the presidency of the European Union and the presidency of the African Unity organization, the Non- aligned organization in order to move urgently to end the Israeli occupation for Beit al-Sharq ( Orient house).

Oreikat explained that Arafat coupled these messages with a copy of the message of the Israeli foreign minister Shemon Peres which he allotted in 1993 at the American administration and Norway, in which Israel vowed not to violate the Beit al-Sharq and the Palestinian establishments in occupied Jerusalem.

Oreikat stressed that Israel does not honor the agreements signed with the Palestinian authority and seeks to violate them and seeks to invest any local, international or regional condition to replace the settlement the two sides had reached.

In a statement, the Palestinian authority called on the Israeli government to withdraw its forces from Beit al-Sharq and other establishments and from Abu Deis town without any delay and to honor the agreements relating to Beit al-Sharq and all social, humanitarian, economic, cultural and educational establishments in the city.
