France holds contacts with Washington at Egypt's request
Egypt-France, Politics, 8/9/2001

French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine expressed France' concern over the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian territories.

In a message sent to Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher, Vedrine said his country would make contacts with Washington at the request of Egypt to urge it to put an end to the deteriorating situation in Palestine.

Vedrine said he would hold contacts with Belgium, President of the European Union, and rest of the EU states to back the Egyptian moves to defuse tension and end all acts of violence. Egypt's ambassador Ali Maher made these statements to France.

Ali Maher said he conveyed a message to Vedrine from the Egyptian Foreign Minister in which Egypt voiced concern over the on going Israeli attacks and killings of Palestinians.

The message stressed that France should interfere as quickly as possible to end Israeli acts.
