Sharon and others to be tried as war criminals
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 8/9/2001
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights has submitted a notice to the Public Prosecutor against Israeli PM Ariel Sharon and 7 of the Israeli military commanders accusing them of committing war crimes during the 1956 and 1967 wars.
The Organization called upon the Egyptian government to file a lawsuit with the International War Criminal Court to try them.
The EOHR has also called for hearing 56 eyewitnesses on the massacres committed by those military men. The notice submitted by the EOHR's Secretary General and Vice President of the International Federal Organization for Human Rights, Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, highlighted that Sharon was the commander of the 9th brigade in 1967 war.
The Organization urged for warrant to be issued to arrest those accused pursuant to Article 4 of the Geneva Convention as well as a request to International Red Cross Organization to present available information they have about the atrocities the Egyptians underwent at the hands of the Israeli military during the 1956 and 1967 war.
