Moroccan gets silver medal at 3,000m steeple chase at Edmonton
Morocco, Sports, 8/9/2001
Moroccan athlete Ali Ezzine won on Wednesday the silver medal at the 3,000 m steeple chase of Edmonton's world athletics championships.
The gold and bronze medals were grabbed by Kenya's Reuben Kosgei and Bernard Barmasat.
Following this hard victory, Ezzine --who already won the Bronze medal in the 1996 world junior championship in Sydney, another bronze in the 1999 World Championships in Seville and a third bronze medal in the Olympic games of Sydney-- told MAP special envoy he had agreed with the Kenyans to speed the race pace but they changed their tactic. "My friend Boulami (Morocco) took the initiative and I followed him with the aim of leaving behind Spain's Luis Miguel and France's Bouabdellah Tahiri," he added.
His dream for a gold medal nearly came true, but chances faded away in the last lane, as he started to suffer muscle sore.
