American raids at civilian installations in Northern Iraq

An Iraqi military spokesman announced that American and British planes on Tuesday bombarded installations in the north of Iraq but did not indicate that the bombardment resulted in casualties.
The Iraqi spokesman added that several of the American and British formations, backed by AWACS planes carried out 14 sorties over areas in the provinces of Dahouk, Irbeil and Ninwa to the north of Iraq. The Iraqi spokesman explained that the " enemy" planes bombarded civilian and service installations in Ninwa province which is 400 Km to the north of Baghdad. The spokesman continued that the Iraqi anti- warplanes missiles intercepted these planes and forced them to escape away.
In Washington, the spokesman for the US defense department said that American planes raided targets in North Iraq.
