Tunisian President starts reforms of judiciary

The Tunisian President Zein al-Abidin Bin Ali has announced his determination to maintain reforms on the structure of the Judicial higher council which has become the place of differences recently and promised to improve the financial and vocational conditions of judges.
During an ordinary meeting for the higher judicial council, the Tunisian President assigned a committee stemmed from the council to reconsider ways and means of developing the basic law of the judges, this was in the framework of a draft law aims at increasing members of the elected council.
The judges higher council which was established by the Tunisian President and presides over it, is composed of 11 members, only two of them are elected. The president appoints the other 9.
However, the structure and very role of the said judicial council were the place of criticism concerning the independence of the judiciary in Tunisia.
