Maher Summons Belgium's ambassador in Cairo

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher summoned the ambassador of Belgium in Cairo, whose country is currently assuming the chairmanship of the European Union.
Maher briefed the ambassador on Egypt's apprehensions about the dangerous situation in the region.
The ambassador, in press statements after the meeting, said that Maher asked him to inform the EU governments of the need to exert all possible efforts for persuading Israel to stop from dragging the region to the verge of an abyss.
Maher explained that the situation in the Middle East does not only affect the region's countries but the interests of the European countries as well, added the ambassador.
Meanwhile, Israel has pledged to sustain assassinations policy against Al-Aqsa Intifada Leaderships. A military spokesman said the Israeli army has eased down restrictions on occupation soldier's practices. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon accused the PNA of leading and coordinating with terrorist organizations.
On the Palestinian side, the Palestinian leadership sent two messages to President George Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell urging Washington to interfere for implementing Mitchell plan.
A spokesman for the PLO office in Washington said the two messages called on Washington to take over its responsibilities and to allow the deployment of international monitors in the Palestinian territories meanwhile, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan urged Israel to stop the policy of assassinations against the Palestinians a spokesman for the United Nations said this policy would render the dangerous situation more volatile adding this policy is a violation of human rights law and international law.
In the Arab League, Secretary General Amr Moussa said the continuation of the Israeli aggression is an attrition war against Palestinians.
He criticized international community that has taken the seats of by standard adding Arab moves would continue for putting an end to the deterioration of the situation.
