More incentives to investors to reclaim new lands
Egypt, Economics, 8/7/2001

Within the context of the government's plan to activate the role of the private sector in the field of land reclamation, Prime Minister Atef Ebeid said that the Cabinet has approved new incentives to be offered to investors to reclaim lands in Toshka and East Owainat.

The Ministerial Committee held last week reviewed the ongoing land reclamation activities as part of the giant East Suez Canal development project.

The committee approved the allocation of L.E. 25 million for the completion of infrastructure work to reclaim 40,000 feddans East of the Suez Canal.

Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mahmoud Abu-Zeid said that the new five-year reclamation plan includes cultivating 620,000 feddans in West and East Suez Canal, as well as reclaiming 200,000 feddans in Toshka.

The plan also envisages reclaiming 1.8 million feddans in East Owainat, El-Hamam, El-Salam Canal, Wadi El-Nakra and Wadi El-Saidah.

On the same plane, Deputy Premier and Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Youssef Wali said that the national reclamation plan also includes reclaiming and cultivating 727,000 feddans in north and central Sinai, to be distributed on new graduates. These areas will be irrigated mainly from El-Salam and Sheikh Zeid Canals as well as subterranean wells.
