Fighting between the Sudanese government, rebel forces
Sudan, Politics, 8/6/2001

The spokesman for the Sudanese army said that the government forces intercepted an attack launched by the rebels in al-Wahda province in the southern part of the country. The Sudanese news agency quoted Lt. gen. Muhammad Bashir Suleiman ( the spokesman) as saying that " a group of outlaws tried on Sunday morning to launch an aggression in the Western al-Nweir province, situated to the west of Mayoum city." He added that the aim of the rebels is to divert the attention and improve the deteriorated morals of those outlaws after their recent defeat in Teimour Wan Kay in al-Wahda province.
