Lahoud: Partial solutions do not make peace
Lebanon-Japan, Politics, 8/6/2001

The Lebanese President Emile Lahoud has stressed that "the aggressive policy conducted by the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon have brought the region to such a drastic condition and foiled all attempts made to achieve a just and comprehensive peace."

During his meeting on Sunday with the Japanese deputy foreign minister, currently visiting Lebanon, the Lebanese President added that partial solutions since the Camp David agreement until the Oslo agreement and the followed agreements did not achieve the expected peace that can ensure stability in the region. The Lebanese President noted that the policy of using force which Israel tries to impose on the Arab countries concerned in the Arab Israeli conflict will not yield in a positive result.

The Lebanese President welcomed a clear Japanese role in the region. A role based on a comprehensive vision built on the restoration of Arab rights, especially the right of the Palestinian people to return back to their home and to complete the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Shebaa farms.

The Japanese official handed President Lahoud a message from the Japanese prime minister in which he expressed his country's concern over the events in the region and the situation of the ME peace.

In his message the Japanese prime minister stressed his country's support to the peace process at its political and economic levels.
