EU, Egypt discuss aid program
Egypt-European Union, Economics, 8/4/2001
Ambassador Gamal Bayoumy who is in charge of the Egyptian European Union File, said the two sides are currently holding talks on defining the Egyptian sectors that will receive finance within the framework of the European aid offered to Egypt.
He added the 5-year program started this year, whereas the first one started from 1997 to 1999 and Egypt got 760 million euros.
"By virtue of the recent signed partnership agreement the EU pledged to offer both financial and technical aid to support the Egyptian economy especially in a way that leads to a free trade order", he said.
Bayoumy pointed out that among the sectors due to benefit from the EU's finance are the Human Resource Programs, Foreign Trade, South Sinai and Upper Egypt and the Scientific Research due to be linked with the country's needs.
