Egypt-Israel, Politics, 8/4/2001
In a press conference held in Cairo, the Israeli ambassador in cairo Zafi Mazeil accused the Egyptian media of misleading the Egyptian public opinion concerning the Israeli- Palestinian conflict and of provoking for hostilities against his country.
Mazeil noted in particular the Egyptian daily al-Jomhoreyah ( the republic) and the " Egyptian Gazzette" which in their articles provoke, as he said on " hatred and increases anti- semitism feelings." He added " I fear that this campaign will pioson relations between Israeli and Egypt for a long time after setling the conflict."
He continued that peace between Israel and Egypt is necessary for the Middle East as a whole and that without peace the ME region as a whole will be exposed to more instability and violence." Mazeil continued that the Egyptian mass media is " making a drain wash for its citizens." The chief editor of the " al-Jomhoreyah " called on the Arabs and the Muslims to " take revenge" following the Israeli attack at Nablus which resulted in killing 8 Palestinians.
In his editorial, Samir Rajab, a journalist who is close to the Egyptian President said that " what had happened in Nablus will eventually push all those who belong to Islam and Arabism to maintain an Intifada ( uprising ) for the sake of 'martyrs, for their religion' because Israel is a delibrate killer. A matter which makes it imperative to revenge immediately."
