Yemeni opposition boycotts a meeting with the government
Yemen, Politics, 8/4/2001
The yemeni opposition on Wednesday announced it will boycott the meeting called upon by the government due to be held on Saturday ( today).
An official source in the opposition parties coalition which includes the Yemeni coalition for reforms, the Yemeni socialist party and the Nserite unionist organization and al-Haq party, the Yemeni people's forces federation and the democratic organization of September said the opposition parties which agreed on a document of principles to enhace democracy and promotion of the election process, regret the invitation extended by the governments to the parties to convene a consultation meeting despite the lack of seriousness of the government in its dialogue with the opposition parties on their proposals towards the non- democratic amendments on the election law.
The source considered that the government's lack of seriousness to maintain a dialogue seeks to convert the meeting with the opposition parties into mere " media consumption to overcome the efforts aming at perpetuating these amendments. "
