A new Kuwaiti approach on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion

Kuwait has received the anniversary of August 2nd, 1990 with remarks showing that a clear change has been made in its political and media approach. An approach reviewed by the the Kuwaiti minister of information Sheikh Ahmad al-Fahd al-Ahmad al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti minister of state for foreign afairs Sheikh Muhammad al-Sabah al-salem.

The mainlines of the new approach were stated in the speech of Sheikh Muhammad duing a seminar he held at the headquaters of the Kuwaiti journalists Union on Tuesday. It concentrated on unlimited support for the cause of Palestine and holding the Iraqi regime responsible for not proposing any initiative for reconciliation that responds to the rights of Kuwait and ensures guarantees to repeat what had happened in 1990.

Sheikh Muhammad al-Sabah denied any consultations with the Americans for striking Iraq.

Repling to a question on his opinion towards statements made by the Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher three days earlier in which Maher expressed rejection to directing an American strike against Iraq, Sheikh al-Sabah said:" we support the Egyptian statement," stressing that " no body would have wished to strike Iraq and Kuwait ' s position stands on the hope not to damaging the brotherly people of Iraq," adding that " all that is wanted by Kuwait is not to repeat what had happened and Iraq to give guarantees on that and Kuwait and the region will live safely," hinting that so far Iraq has not propose any initiative to good offices for reconciliation with Kuwait.
