Turkish foreign minister to visit Syria very soon
Syria-Turkey, Politics, 8/4/2001
Diplomatic sources have expected that the Turkish foreign minister Ismael Cim will visit Syria shortly to sign a Syrian- Turkish statement including the basic principles for the coming phase of the relations between the two countries.
The sources said that the two sides will be obliged in the statement to reciprocated honoring of the international borders for each of them, but without hinting the issue of the Al- Iskandaroun Sanjak ( ceded by Turkey from Syria).
It has become evident that Ankara always persits the need of an official Syrian recognition of its sovereignty on Iskandaroun, and ever making of that a main precondition for developing relations with Damascus, while Syria refuses that and considering it as untimely to debate the issue of al-Iskandaroun sanjak.
In this respect, the Syrian deputy foreign minister, currently visiting Ankara, expressed her satisfaction ove the talks she held with her Turkish counterpart Farouk Loug Oglo and other Turkish officials during here recent visit to Turkey.
Nasser said that the Syrian and Turkish foreign ministers will sign in Damascus the joint statement which will include the view points of the two countries towards issues of mutual concern relating to bilateral relations including the waters of the Euphrates.
