Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 8/4/2001

The Israeli occupation forces continued on Thursday enforcement of its positions in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa farms by armed vehicles.

Lebanese security sources said the Israeli occupation forces during the few past hours placed a mobile camera off Burket al-Naqqar to the south of the occupied Shebaa town.

The Lebanese sources added that the Israeli forces, for the fourth running day installed new electronic equipment and observation equipment at Jabal al-Sheikh monitoring station and founded a workshop to fortify the military road which links the observatory position of Jabal al-Sheikh to the skiing center, besides the Israeli forces installed gates along the border belt in south Lebanon with an average of one Gate at every two kilometers.

The Israeli forces opened its heavy machine guns fire at the outskirts of Kafer Shouba town while Israeli military and armored moves were seen inside Shebaa farms until Kafer Shouba heights.

On Thursday after noon the Israeli army carried out a maneuver by live ammunition at the western side of the Shebaa farm in which Meirkava tank and heavy artillery took part.

Lebanese security sources said the maneuvers were held at the control of the Israeli warplanes and helicopters which violated the Lebanese airspace.

On the other hand, the UN forces working in South Lebanon started to dismantle its installation at the border al-Abbaseyah gate and from this gate prevented the citizens of al-Abbaseyah village to cross to the liberated territories.

The UN forces started to transport the installations into the main headquarters of the Indian unit of UNIFIL along the blue line of the border in the liberated side of al-Abbaseyah.

This UNIFIL steps came after the great protest expressed by the Lebanese citizens against the barriers installed by the UNIFIL preventing them to have access to the liberated part of their town.

Next Sunday the people of al-Abbaseyah will celebrate entering their liberated town for the first time since long years.
