Radio Monte Carlo highlights Mubarak statements
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 8/2/2001
Radio Monte Carlo gave Wednesday priority to President Hosni Mubarak's statements following his meeting in Burg Al Arab, Egypt, with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. The radio highlighted Mubarak's warning of the grave consequences of the deteriorating situation in the Middle East and the perils that might ensue by the destruction of Palestinians.
This would lead to a situation that could be difficult to control, according to Mubarak.
The radio also quoted Mubarak as calling on the US and Europe to seek a solution, warning that lagging would only further aggravate and complicate matters.
Mubarak stressed the importance of sending monitors. If Israel does accept this, the US and Europe have to hammer out a solution, the radio quoted Mubarak as saying.
The broadcast also cited Mubarak as questioning the benefit of convening an Arab summit now, saying that there has been a G-8 summit that has taken a set of decision which should be implemented.
