Imam exhorts Muslims to defend Jerusalem
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 8/2/2001
Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Mohammad Sayyed Tantawi exhorted the Muslim countries to joint efforts to preserve Jerusalem.
Egypt is the country of peace and security and is the fort of Islamic thought as it is the country of Al-Azhar, he added.
This came at Tantawi meeting with Governor of Alexandria Abdel Sallam Mahgoub.
On the other hand, Tantawi stressed that there has been no Solomon Temple under Al-Aqsa Mosque as the Jews claim. He pointed out that the Israeli allegations are sheer lies aiming at misleading the international public opinion.
This came within the context of the proceedings of the first cultural forum held at Islamic Youth Hostel City, Alexandria.
Tantawi stressed the necessity of achieving cooperation among all Muslims because it strengthens weak nations, while separation weakens the powerful ones.
Tantawi called for supporting the Palestinians because it is an obligation enjoined upon Muslims.
All Muslims will resist any aggression launched against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, he stressed.
