US refuses Jordanian proposal on tanks to Lebanon
Jordan-Lebanon, Politics, 8/2/2001
The Israeli radio has quoted the Jordanian daily " Jordan Times," as saying that Washington refused a request proposed by Jordan to give Lebanon more than 50 Jordanian tanks, made by the US.
The Jordanian paper quoted a government official in Amman as saying that this request was addressed to the American side in July and the source gave no mention to the date when Washington informed Amman its rejection of the Jordanian request.
The Jordanian official added that the aim of Amman's willingness to offer the US- made tanks aims at helping Beirut to deploy its forces in the area of south Lebanon..
The paper also quoted Jordanian sources as saying that the American rejection came because of Washington's repression over not deploying the Lebanese army in the South Lebanon so far.
