Lahoud stressed just, durable peace in ME
Lebanon-Regional, Politics, 8/2/2001

The Lebanese President Emil Lahoud has stressed that Lebanon is an advocate of a just and comprehensive peace based on the implementation of UN resolutions, the land for peace formula and the return back of the Palestinian refugees to their territories.

In a speech he delivered on Wednesday in a celebration held to mark the graduation of the army session of liberating South Lebanon and the Western Bekaa on the occasion of the Lebanese army day ( falls on August 1st in both Syria and Lebanon), held in the presence of high ranking Lebanese officials, the Lebanese President said that Israel does not want peace which is built on justice, rather wants peace for itself. An Israeli peace which is based on power. A peace which it wants to impose on Lebanon, Syria and Palestine " at the expense of our own legitimate rights."

He continued that Israel still occupied a part of our territories in the Shebaa farms, still jails in its prisons, Lebanese citizens who were kidnapped from their houses and Israel still ignore the right of the return back of the Palestinian refugees and still refuses to hand over the maps of the land-mines which it had implanted in South Lebanon and causing on daily basis more casualties.

He indicated that Israel still violates daily the Lebanese airspace and refused to implement the UN resolutions which provide for its withdrawal from the occupied territories in Palestine and the Golan.

He added that this reality Israel tries to impose on the region and dragging it to confrontation makes it necessary for us, government, people, army and national resistance to adopt a counter policy, based on providing the requirements of steadfastness and strengthening the atmosphere of national unity in political, economic, security and social fields.
