Ethiopia and Sudan

The Sudanese embassy in Addis Ababa said on Wednesday that Ethiopia which has sea coasts has transferred its trade of imports and exports to the " Port Sudan" port in reply to the restrictions imposed at Djibouti outlet.
An official at the Sudanese embassy in Addis Ababa told reporters that an agreement was reached between the two countries and the commodities have actually started to be transferred to Ethiopia through "Port Sudan" port.
He added that the " express way" which links the port to the Sudanese city of al-Qadarif on the border with Ethiopia was completed and that commodities are being transported from there without obstacles. He continued that the Ethiopian establishment for naval services and the transit is intending to build warehouses in al-Qadarif.
In July, the President of Djibouti Ismael Omar Jelle enacted a new law which prohibits the Ethiopian companies from carrying out customs release works in Djibouti.
Ethiopia had transferred its imports and exports to Djibouti from the ports of Asab and Musa"wa in Eritrea following the borders wars waged by the two countries between 1998- 2000.
