Algerian president wishes to consolidate relations with Morocco

Algerian president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, expressed permanent attachment and sincere resolve to consolidate the brotherly ties with Morocco.

The Algerian president who sent King Mohammed VI a congratulations message on the occasion of Throne Day, marked in Morocco on Monday to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the king's enthronement, wrote "on this happy occasion where we share your joys and those of the brotherly Moroccan people, I renew to Your Majesty our permanent attachment and sincere resolve to consolidate the brotherhood links, strength neighborliness relations, promote fruitful cooperation in the mutual interest of our two brotherly people, in reciprocal trust and respect, so as to enable our Maghreb Arab Union reach its objectives and guarantee to its people integration and solidarity."

Both Morocco and Algeria are member of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA) which also groups Libya, Mauritania and Tunisia. Set up in 1989, the Union has been frozen due to divergences between Morocco and Algeria over the latter's direct involvement in the Sahara issue.

President Bouteflika went on that he is convinced of the king's earnest determination to work jointly for a future of peace and stability for the two countries that would help the two people fulfill their aspirations to bilateral and constructive complementarity in political and socio-economic fields and in cooperation.
